Astra are based in Ballinteer Community School, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Borough, Co. Dublin. The name Astra comes from the UCD Ad Astra Elite Sports Academy. Ad Astra means "To The Stars". The original UCD crest had the words Ad Astra in a ribbon above and Cothrom na Féinne in a ribbon below. Cothrom na Féinne translates from the Old Gaelic as "Fairness of the Fianna" with the Fianna being an ancient band of Gaelic warriors who justice, fairness, loyalty and equality. The Corn Cothrom na Féinne or "Fair Play Cup" is a pre-season Cup played between members of UCD and Astra to remember their common past and renew friendships.
